Description
This scales book contains just the 10 most violin-friendly key signatures — 5 major keys with their relative minors — the keys that beginning and intermediate players will encounter over 98% of the time in traditional tunes and standards written for the violin. Unlike a traditional 3-octave scale system for advanced classical players, this book tops out at third position notes, with one- and two-octave scales, so it can be a practical companion for non-classical players. But it also goes beyond the focus of most classical scales books: for each key studied, there are a full range of related arpeggios (i.e. broken chords) named by both their chord-letter and Roman-numeral designations, they way they are presented in contemporary music scores and charts. There are also modal, pentatonic and blues scales for each key signature, for building improvisations on jazz and modal tunes. Finally, simple 2-note chords (double stops with open strings, 1 finger and 2 fingers) are written in multiple inversions for easy reference and application.
An excellent companion to this book is Fiddle Fundamentals Folio: Fiddle Tunes for Sightreading, Bowing Agility and Finger Dexterity.
